So how does it work?
In a nutshell, pay for your bike monthly as a salary sacrifice before tax and NI, so the savings you will make depend on your tax band. Your employer pays for the voucher from one of the scheme operators, and you pay your employer back via those salary sacrifices. These payments are usually spread over 12 or 24 months but can be up to 5 years. At the end of this period there is a final nominal payment to take ownership of the bike from the scheme operator, and the average overall saving is between 25 and 39%.
The voucher can be used to purchase the bike, and also any accessories –lock, helmet, lights – you may need to get started. There’s also no limit to the amount you can apply for, so that e-bike you’ve been eyeing up is up for grabs.
